YOU GAVE THESE DOGS A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE!

Thank you. Because of you, the dogs of dog island have a safe place to live.

In 2011, Soi Dog rescued countless dogs from terrible floods in Bangkok. The dogs had been living at a shelter on the grounds of a Buddhist park called Phuttamonthon. With the flooding, there was nowhere for the dogs to go their home was submerged under two metres of water.

The dogs had only one option: to gather on a bridge the only solid ground in a sea of water. This bridge became known as dog island.

Desperate dogs were found trying to swim to dry land, or clinging to the branches of overhanging trees. Exhausted and starving, the dogs were eventually evacuated from the bridge to an emergency shelter where people like you funded their food and medical treatment. They would not be alive without you.

In the coming weeks, as the flood waters receded, thanks to your help, we were able to re-build their shelter in the park, and the dogs were eventually moved back.

Many of these dogs have since been adopted. Yet new dogs arrived unwanted, neglected, and abandoned dogs. These dogs had nowhere else to go. The shelter was their only home.

But with a lack of government funding and the passage of time, the shelter fell into disrepair and the dogs urgently needed your help once more. We asked you to help these dogs and you answered. Thanks to your generous donations, their home has undergone major repairs and it is once again a safe place for the dogs to live.

The shelter at dog island is one of many shelters across Thailand that Soi Dog Foundation is able to help because of your support. Thank you.
