CUTENESS CURSE: ABANDONED HEDGEHOGS – ILLEGAL AND CRUEL

Many would go �Aw, so cute!� when they see a hedgehog. And while they are often sold online, it is illegal to sell or keep hedgehogs in Singapore.

Pictured right were 5 abandoned hedgehogs were left in a plastic tub at a Housing Development Board refuse collection, and on the left, an injured hedgehog who was found inside the drain of a nature reserve. Abandonment is not only illegal, but also cruel, and irresponsible pet owners should never be complacent thinking someone else will come along and adopt them.

Sadly, the hedgehog from the nature reserve, found by members of the Herpetological Society of Singapore, died from severely infected maggot wounds.
