The International Day of Non-Violence is marked on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of Indian independence and pioneer of the philosophy of non-violence.
His philosphy inspired Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, Albert Einstein, the Dalai Lama, John Lennon, Steve Jobs and countless others.
The United Nations General Assembly established the commemoration of the International Day to “disseminate the message of non-violence to secure a culture of peace, tolerance and understanding.”
It is easier to hate than it is to love, but as Gandhi said, nothing good comes easily.
