Soi Dog would like to congratulate the Mayor of Bucheon city near Seoul, South Korea for his initiative to turn Bucheon into a compassionate “dog meat-free city”, which would be monumental in a country with over 17,000 dog meat farms. It is hoped that other cities in the Seoul area will follow Bucheon’s example.

An initial step towards this goal was a meeting on 30 August in Bucheon with top city council and agriculture department members. Animal welfare stakeholders in the community presented on issues including the dog meat trade and responsible pet ownership. Soi Dog’s International Director of Animal Welfare Dr. Katherine Polak presented on the public health risks of dog meat consumption.

We applaud these collaborative efforts to ban dog meat and look forward to an eventual country-wide ban. If you haven’t done so already, please sign this petition to shut down the 17,000+ dog meat farms in South Korea >>> https://savekoreandogs.soidog.org/sign
