We thank Channel 8 news for highlighting the importance of the Pet Animal Licensing System.

As the changes to the licensing regime only took effect on 1 March 2017, it is too soon to assess if the new rules have been effective. We do, however, expect to see a decline in abandonment cases resulting from this positive change made by AVA, though it might be a few years before we see results.

We believe that this enhancement will improve the traceability of pet dogs, especially in suspected abandonment cases and also assist in reuniting lost dogs with their owners.

We feel that similar regulations should also be put in place for cats and rabbits, as these are commonly abandoned animals.
