Tigers Abscesses Day 6 (the Soft Mass Is Also An Abscess)
All the wounds are healing.
And finally, now we know that the soft masses on the side, which joined up and became one big soft mass, is also an abscess.
Either it ruptured or Tiger bit it.
I noticed some liquid oozing out of a tiny puncture hole this afternoon, so I dabbed it all up with some tissue paper. I could press on the mass and liquid oozed out through the puncture hole.
Took a photo and sent it to the vet. The vet said it’s an abscess and I would have to flush it as well. Tiger will definitely need to continue with another course of antibiotics. We will be meeting the vet tomorrow.
I guess the good thing is that it has burst now and we know what it is.
The previous wounds are all healing well.
Luckily Tiger was asleep on his (good) side so I could see the liquid oozing out.
I’ve done the flushing and he’s back on the e-collar for now. During the flushing, I noticed that there are actually two tiny puncture holes in the centre of the big soft mass. When I pumped saline into the hole, the entire mass bulged. I pressed out the liquid.
Just to recap what the vet explained 6 days ago: Unlike us humans who heal from inside-out, cats tend to heal outside-inwards. So, puncture wounds might heal superficially but abscesses can form inside. Furthermore, cat skin is loose so an abscess would appear like a soft mass under the skin.
