He drove 6 hours from his village to Kota Kinabalu city to give a speech at the launch of When The Water Whispers coffee table book organised by WWF-Malaysia. Kasinin Basir, hails from Ranau Sabah, is seen in the photo posing proudly next to the photo of a suspension bridge in Tibabar village, an image which he took after lessons on basic photography skills during the Water Voice programme.

Clutched in his hand is a copy of the book, which showcases some of the images taken by him. Kasinin was one of the 16 volunteers from 13 villages around Ranau that took part in the 3-month programme.

Kasinin was motivated to work on river conservation after seeing the effects of the 2015 earthquake on the river next to village leading him to also participate in the RIVER Ranger programme to learn about river monitoring.

Community Engagement and Education (CEE) programme by WWF-Malaysia focuses on engaging, collaborating and empowering local communities towards sustainable livelihood options and conservation of species and natural resources.
