VERDICT: GUILTY
DOG BUTCHER SENTENCED IN THAILAND
In April, a dog butcher in north-eastern Thailand was arrested after he was found with the body of a dog he had just killed. Reportedly at least 2 other dogs had been slaughtered and their meat sold that day.
The dog butcher has been found guilty. He was convicted and sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 1-year suspension. Unfortunately, this means he will go to prison only if he is caught committing the same crime again. But he was also fined 20,000 Thai baht (approximately 600 USD), which is a higher fine than usual.
The dog butcher was tried under the Prevention of Animal Cruelty and Provision of Animal Welfare Act, Thailand’s first animal welfare law, enacted in 2014.
