Urko: Surviving Sporotrichosis
Tweet |
One of our readers wrote to us about two months back enquiring about a sporo-cat, Urko. We encouraged her to get Urko treated and here are some updates and photos. We are really glad to know that Urko is showing good signs of improvement and recovery now.
The first email on 17th May 2017:
Just recently we found this little black kitty in my cats` enclosure – managed somehow – don`t know how. My cats remained ok. About to do de-flea and noticed a nodule blocking one nostril. Separated, dewormed and took to UPM. Sporotrichosis – the medication – capsule to split into 5 portions – one lot daily. Treatment and cure takes 3 months. Will my cats be safe from the virus if it joins them later? They do sometimes scrap – twice last year. Two front room cats had a bust up this year – and I also kena. Would it, as I am thinking, be better to have it euthanized?
Your opinion, please.
The update on 8th July 2017:
He came 22 April and I thought he was having a flu. Next day a few went down with flu and all were treated for that.
Only on the 11th May was I able to take him to Serdang, diagnosed as sporotrichosis. INOX for 30 days. Within a couple of weeks his nose was clear. 13th June to Serdang.
They said he had improved. I changed medication to SPORONOX. Also giving him DMG to build up his immune system. So for 2 months. is very active.
He has morning sun. Here is one on his scratching board. He has grown very big. On 13th June he weighed 2.2kg – tiny when he came.
Owners could, like I did tie 2 cages together. I had one on a trolley for pushing him into the am sun.
