Old and Sick, Furball

You made me what I am today, a dog at its best.

You wanted me to know no fear, a cut above the rest.

Not only did I master that, I’ve thrown in loyalty too.

Look into my eyes, my soul, you surely knew I would be faithful to you.

I watched your kids grown, I watched your house.

Your praise was my greatest crown.

Asked what you wanted, I did my best.

I would even be your clown.

When I’m old, partially blind and sick, you won’t even look at me.

Without a thought, you dialled the council’s number.

Men cladded in blue, I greeted them as usual.

Never crossed my mind; a road of no return.

You didn’t even stop them,

You told them I was a stray.

How could you say that to them,

All these while I served you well.

Just because that I’m old and sick?

You know that I would be put to sleep.

It is cold here and I’m very scare.

I’m waiting for my time, you wont even dare to look into my eyes.

I’ve done my best to keep you safe,

Why wont you please return a favour?

Note: Furball was immediately rescued from council and adopted by his caring & loving neighbour.
