Hail bounces off the plywood dog kennels at the St Francis shelter in Romania. Though lightning etches the sky, the dogs are quiet, nesting for the evening after a hearty meal. Their home is hand-built with love and modest materials, but it keeps them dry. For most, this is the first place they’ve ever really belonged.
SUMMER EMERGENCY – WE NEED YOUR HELP:
It’s not just the storms overhead that have been creating danger. Hunger is a more widespread danger. We have been deluged with distress calls from rescue squads who are begging for food. We call this a super storm because we need to deliver more than 50,000 meals this month and the funds simply aren’t there to do so. And, in some locations, weather is making the task unbearable. In Turkey, 138 degree heat (59 Celcius) has made daily food delivery to the cats and dogs on the streets a dangerous but truly LIFE SAVING chore. We can’t stop. The meals must get through somehow. Though we always feel bad to ask, we truly do need your help.
