Where Are You, Daffodil?

This afternoon, when I came home, there was thunder.

Mr Zurik was waiting for me in the porch and he asked to be let into the house.

Of course I let him in.

He is VERY afraid of thunder.

Very, very, very afraid.

Mr Zurik came in and sat quietly by himself. I offered him food, but he was too scared to eat.

Everyone was okay with everything, until about an hour later.

I heard a loud war cry.

I rushed out of Bunny’s Place and saw Indy confronting poor Mr Zurik.

Mr Zurik did not fight back. Instead, he quickly darted towards the patio door, wanting to go out.

But on the way there, Heidi was under the table, so Heidi had a war cry with him as well.

Poor, poor Mr Zurik.

I quickly came to help him and gave him safe passage out to the patio where his best friend, Ginger, was waiting.

From there, Zurik asked to be let out, so I let him out of Stargate2, back to the porch.

When this was happening, I saw Daffodil jump down from the sofa and she walked to the crime scene.

When I came back in, I did not see her anymore. I thought perhaps she had gone upstairs.

It was evening when I started looking for Daffodil.

She wasn’t on the sofa. I looked everywhere downstairs. Under the chairs, in the kitchen, etc. Our house is very open with hardly any nook or corner, so it’s easy to look.

She wasn’t downstairs, I was sure.

So I went upstairs to look. Only our bedroom door was open. We had already nailed back the wirenetting last night. It was secured, for sure.

I looked under the bed, sofa and armchair. No sign on Daffi.

I even looked inside the other two rooms. No Daffi.

Came downstairs and looked all over the house again.

No Daffi.

Oh no!!

“Daffodil has escaped!!”, I announced.

Of course nobody paid any attention to me. How could that POSSIBLY happen?

It is impossible.

I must be mad.

Yes, even I thought I was mad.

There is NO WAY she could have escaped again.

I went out to the road to check the roof. I called for her and waited.

No, Daffi did not appear on the roof.

I went back and went to check the gopher hole – everything was intact.

I went back upstairs to check on the re-installed wire-netting.

All intact.

Searched the entire house again. Up and down.

She has escaped.

But how???

From upstairs I came down and suddenly….

Cat – 1, Human – ZERO.

I swear Daffodil was laughing at me.

You absolutely silly human!

Was she there all the time while I was looking up and down and outside the house?

I don’t think she was there. That’s Ginger’s basket and it is “right there”. How could I have missed looking there?

I think she was playing hide-and-seek with me.

Madness!

Daffodil and everyone had a meal of steamed sardines for supper just now and she loved it. Since she loves fish so much, I decided to switch her to sardines instead of tuna (which I learnt, is very toxic these days).

Goodnight, everyone.

I do think I’ve gone slightly mad by now.
