Daffi Updates And Behind The (iron) Curtain

I rushed back after my class and yes, Daffodil was still around, right there, on the sofa, where I left her when I went off to work.

She must have taken quite a nap.

Hello, Daffi.

Keeping it calm, casual and nonchalant.

I sat down and spoke with her.

Daffodil (just like Rosie) is not your typical “manja” cat who likes cuddles. She wants a respectable distance. Pats on the head is fine, but don’t overdo it.

You can see her paws and underside are all grey. It’s dusty. She must have gone to hide somewhere in the roof.

She allowed me to check her tumour. That’s a patch of white paint on it. The next-door was under renovation (but all completed now), so she must have got it from there.

I do wonder now, where did Daffodil go from Sunday (after 10am) and the whole of Monday? I strongly believe she was on the roof all the time. Maybe not ours, maybe next door’s. I don’t think she even came down at all.

Ginger is making friends with Tabs now.

Good old Tabs! She’s such a good-natured and obliging cat. No airs at all.

Really, Daffi, it isn’t so bad living here, is it?

It’s not like you are confined inside a cage….you have a whole house plus a garden. It’s really bigger than a Hong Kong apartment.

But cats will be cats. They don’t like to be confined. They see the world differently from us. I do understand that.

But Daffi, there are dangers out there. For example, there are fast cars. There is a lady in the back road who has been known to put out poison for cats and throw stones at cats. And of course, there is that distant neighbour who has distributed the council hotline for catching cats to the entire neighbourhood whatsapp group and yes, someone did call the council and at least ten cats had been caught (according to the guards). And this is despite all my pleadings for them not to call.

This concept of equality for all living beings is not easily accepted or grasped by many humans. Even the right to live isn’t granted for all living beings by many, many humans. Humans will eventually destroy this earth, that’s for sure, if a meteorite doesn’t do it first.

From my human point of view, Daffi, you are safer living inside.

But of course, I do stand corrected and if only you could tell me your views, we could discuss it further.

I wish I spoke Cat.

It was time for lunch. Indy was hungry (isn’t he always?) and he made the lunch call. So I began serving everyone.

Nowadays, meal times is a lot of work. The gathering at the patio had been disrupted as sometimes everyone eats in the kitchen but not everyone wants to come into the kitchen, so yes, it’s more work now. I have to bring the bowls out to where everyone is.

The things we (slaves) do for our cats.

I offered Daffi a “nice” bowl of homecooked food (it has chicken, wheatgrass powder, eggshell powder, bamboo salt (for minerals) and fish oil), but no, Daffi didn’t like it. I offered Coco&Joe’s raw food. Nope, didn’t want that either.

Don’t want.

Don’t like.

So okay, maybe she’s not hungry yet.

Later?

But she was hungry, she just didn’t want what was being served.

We are slaves. Make no mistake about that.

SLAVES.

I know what she wants.

Here’s Cindy’s Chicken and Tuna with Chicken (Daffi loves tuna, but nowadays, the tuna has been found to be very toxic and pregnant humans have been advised to refrain from eating tuna). Okay, never mind. A bit of tuna, more chicken and some wheatgrass powder (just a tiny bit).

She ate that all up.

If it’s fish that Daffi wants, maybe I will buy sardines and steam it for her. Rather than keep serving her tuna. Smaller fish is less toxic.

I’m glad she likes the new scratching post. At least there’s something new for her to play on.

Nice, Daffi?

Okay, time to stop bugging her.

I changed the towel in her bed.

Fresh and clean sheets on the sofa.

But Daffi wants to be behind the (iron) curtain, so okay, sure thing.

We will clean of that patch of white paint soon.

I need to drink a large tumbler of water right now….

Indy is keeping Ginger company.

Good boy, Indy.

Daffi hasn’t acknowledged Ginger’s presence at all. Calico pride. Dowager material.

Once again, special thanks to everyone for having prayed and wished for Daffodil’s wellbeing as well as mine. Grateful thanks too to the (anonymous) reader and dear friend who kept vigil with me, constantly on whatsapp contact throughout the entire ordeal and who performed a “sembahyang hajat” for Daffodil’s safe return.

I thank all of you, from the bottom of my heart. It is truly touching to know that despite our circle being so small, we do look out for each other.

We will always be a minority. And we will always need each other.
