Finally!!!
The galvanising of the frame was finally done and Stargate2 (Part 1) is now installed!!
It happened this afternoon, and Ah Keong and his boys took only about half an hour to install it.
Here it is, Stargate2, Part 1.
Part 2 will be installed in a few days’ time.
Ah Keong knows our cats too well, so he says if Part 2 cannot keep them all in, there’s also Part 3.
This material is, ironically, called “anti-climb” but I’m very sure the “anti” only refers to humans. Cats can definitely climb it.
  
We tested Part 1 today and it’s been 9 hours so far. There has been no escape…yet. Of course Part 1 isn’t totally cat-proof, but it seems to be Heidi-, Daffodil- and Ginger-proof. We are quite sure of this. The three of them would not try to climb. I’m not sure about Vincent and Zurik, though.
But here’s the thing about Zurik. He is welcome to come in, but today, he beat Tiger up.
As you know, Tiger practically lives in the tv rack these days.
Poor Tiger just came out to use the sandpit and Mr Zurik beat him up.
So I had to let the Russian out. He was only too happy to go out of Stargate2 and into the porch because I think he doesn’t like to be confined.
He also goes “home” in between meals. I think he just comes for the free food and to flex his muscles and boost his ego.
So, the present arrangement seems to work well for him.
The green netting has been taken down now.
I think Daffodil, Ginger and Heidi will be okay with this “confinement”.
Vincent should be fine too. He spent the whole afternoon upstairs under our bed. In view of Stargate2, we have been training Vincent to live inside the house. He seems happy.
And this evening, when we had enough manpower for heavily guarded supervision, we did the acid test….
We let Indy out.
In a matter of seconds, Indy discovered how to get out.
Yes, it was child’s play to him, we know.
That is why there is Part 2.
We didn’t let him try, of course.
We just wanted to see how long it would take Indy to discover it and yes, it only took a few seconds.
Part 2 will be coming soon.
Much as we wish community cats can live peacefully and roam freely in our neighbourhood, this remains a wish when there are still humans who simply cannot tolerate the presence of any non-human living being in their spaces.
Hence, Stargate2 became a necessity.
But it seems to be a blessing in disguise now. Though the cats’ total freedom has been curtailed, at least I know they are safer within the confines of our compound. The PatioCats still have the patio, sunshine, grass and the rest of the house. They just cannot go out of the gate or onto the road anymore.
A small sacrifice for safety from evil humans.
