In May 2015, we posted two reports on how sniffer rats have been saving lives in African nations. Here they are again:

Now, heroic rats are saving lives in Cambodia!!

Cambodia, the country with the highest ratio of mine amputees per capita in the world, has started using ‘hero rats’ to sniff out unexploded landmines.
The intelligent animals, which possess some of the most sensitive noses in the animal kingdom, have already proven to be a faster and safer means of locating the hidden weapons.
Their participation is largely risk free as their average weight of around one kilo is too light to detonate the mines that rely on pressure activation.
The method is more efficient than metal detectors, with the rats trained to only sniff out TNT rather than any metal object.

Rats, previously regarded as vermin and pests, are now helping humans and saving tons of human lives.
African nations know this. Cambodia knows this.
Here?
I felt compelled to post these on our FB page yesterday (our FB page has a wider reach) because apparently, some resident somewhere complained about leptospirosis in a certain area, informed the authorities and poison has been administered in that area.
This is SO, SO wrong on SO many levels.
The powers-that-be do this all the time. As educated as they claim to be, they always find the “easiest” solution when it comes to animals that they can bully.
To the powers-that-be: Do you murder the whole human race if one (or two, or three, or even four) human(s) have caused harm to other humans? You don’t, do you?
I have had dengue fever before, but I don’t hate mosquitoes nor did I issue a death warrant out on all mosquitoes. In the first place, I totally acknowledge the fact that it wasn’t even that particular mosquito’s fault that I contracted dengue fever. It was my own carelessness.
So why are there rats in the drains and shop areas in our townships?
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to tell you that it’s humans (yes, these self-claimed “intelligent” human beings) who indiscriminately throw their food wastes into the drains, thereby attracting the rats.
And when animal lovers get community cats neutered and returned to the streets where they were born, there is a secondary purpose, folks. It’s for biological control too. The presence of cats will keep the rats away.
But what do the powers-that-be do to neutered street cats and dogs?
Animal lovers need a bigger voice because politicians will only listen to the voice of the majority. They aren’t interested in doing what is right; they are only interested in pleasing the majority.
But the majority isn’t always right.
