I would have happily written about Stargate2, Part 2 this evening, but I am really feeling very dejected right now, because it has failed to keep Daffodil in.
I don’t know how she escaped, but she did.
Here’s the story…(it was rather funny at the beginning, but it is no longer funny now).
Part 2 consists of the cat-fence installed at 45 degrees, supposed to prevent most cats from getting out.
While it was being constructed, Daffodil watched from the neighbour’s roof. I could see she was quite angry.
Ah Keong’s idea was to build it right across and beyond Stargate2 so that it might have a higher chance of preventing Daffodil from climbing out onto the ledge.
We need to have this anti-climb netting instead of the polycarb because we used to have just the polycarb at Bunny’s Place last time and it didn’t work out well with the neighbour. Leaves would get stuck on the polycarb and it also caused a sort of “waterfall” onto the neighbour’s wall when it rained. And we know Subang rains are like sheets of water. So, even for Bunny’s Place, we had to replace the polycarb with netting so that rain could fall through and not cause the “waterfall” onto the neighbour’s wall.
Ginger was mewing for Daffodil. Sigh…
After the contractors left, Daffodil was clearly defiantly angry. She refused to come down and even sat with her buttocks facing us. It seemed funny at the time, though. Nothing I could say or do could lure her to return. She was very, very angry.
Finally, my husband came back from work, and Daffodil sat up. I think she wanted him to notice her at her defiant position on the roof.
Later, we managed to get her back, after she had made her point – that she did not like what we had done.
Of course Ginger was the happiest.
Monge kibble treat.
A side story – I felt sorry that Heidi couldn’t go out for taiji with me this morning, so I brought her out for a playground romp this afternoon. But Heidi is mischievous, so even after spending a considerable amount of time playing, I had a very hard time getting her to come back. When I finally did, Heidi got as near the gate, then she bolted and went to another house. It’s all a game to her. And soon after, it rained heavily. Heidi must have taken shelter somewhere else. She only came back after the rain.
That was already enough to wear me out.
And then, Stargate2, Part 2 arrived, I thought we would at least achieve something positive today. But no…
Vincent seemed reasonably happy staying indoors. He has taken up upstairs. Maybe that’s why Daffodil is unhappy. The bedroom used to be hers, but this was before Rosie got sick. Now, Vincent has taken the bedroom, so Daffodil has no where to go.
Mr Zurik gets to come in only once in a while.
But the thing with Mr Zurik is that, he is actually very “obedient”. He follows me for taiji, guards me like a dog would, then follows me back. After that, he stays in the porch. If he is not in the porch, it means he has gone home. So, it isn’t worrying. Mr Zurik can take care of himself.
But Daffodil?
If you remember Daffodil’s story, about 16-17 years ago, Daffodil’s family was captured by the council when a cat-hater reported their presence. This story was related by Mukda, twice. Daffodil was the only kitten who escaped. She was just a tiny kitten then. It is a very sad story and I don’t want anything untoward to happen to her, especially when she has survived on the streets for so long.
But what can I do when she defies being confined?
Rightfully, community cats should not be confined. Yes, but only in an ideal world where humans accept and allow them to live on the streets where they were born.
We do not live in an ideal world. It’s really FAR from ideal.
We got her back for dinner.
But how long did she stay?
Just for a few hours.
Then, she was gone again.
How did she get out? Even with Part 2 installed.
I don’t know.
But I found her on our roof just now. She feels very victorious, I know. But I’m really not in the mood for celebration right now. After all the hope we placed on Part 2 and it just totally failed – that is really very disappointing.
We had planned a Part 3 in case Part 2 failed.
But I think we need to rethink if it’s wise to carry on.
Maybe confining her would just stress her out and it may not be wise.
Daffodil is under my car in the porch right now. Thank goodness she won’t go far. My only worry is that she goes into someone’s compound.
I tried to get her back, but she was afraid of Mr Zurik. I even brought Mr Zurik into the house so that she would get out from under the car, but she resisted.
She just wants to be free.
Just stay in the porch then, Daffodil. Please be safe.
