The story continues…
So, we all came down for breakfast at about 4.30am.
I only started serving food at 5.30am. Zurik was waiting obediently right outside Stargate2 (he’s been really good these days, that’s because he cannot come in to beat someone up). He lives in the porch and loves the shoe rack.
Daffodil ate with everyone and all seemed well until….
…she took a walk out to the patio.
I was watching, but without a phone or a camera.
She went towards Stargate2.
I was just about to call her back and say some comforting words like “Never mind, Daffodil, we will let you out to the porch, if you promise to come back, blah blah blah…” when….
She jumped.
Oh yes.
She jumped, and within 2 seconds, she was right on top of the gate.
I was shocked beyond words. It happened too fast for me to take note of every single detail, but it looked like she just pawed on the polycarb.
The first thought that occurred to me was that she probably has some sort of lizard-paws? You know, the type that can stick on plastic surfaces? Or did she use the bolts? I don’t really know, it was dark.
I then rushed in just to get my camera and managed to get these shots.
You dumb humans…you never learn, do you?
Then, she made a victory lap, strutted along the ledge, came down to the garbage compartment and went to the porch.
I think it was just to show off more than anything else.
See, that’s the thing, I wanted the polycarbonate sheet to be 59cm but my husband said 38cm would do.
So, it’s really not surprising that Daffodil either managed to stretch her arms to claw above the polycarbonate sheet or, she tapped on the polycarb for a quick footing.
I texted some friends and helpful ideas were offered:
Hang these vertically on the grille?
Hmm…I have these, bought 6 years ago. We put them horizontally to prevent Pole from walking on the ledge (at the time), but she just strolled on them without having to even look down. Piece of cake. But that was horizontal. Will putting them vertically work to deter Daffodil?
Another helpful suggestion: Plants on the ground. But that part of the ground is totally unfertile. And there is the gate too (we need to be able to open it).
We had earlier wanted to do a vertical garden, like the above. Maybe use smaller pots, with hanging plants? But she can probably use the pots to climb, right?
A friend suggested the above too.
So, anyway, I tried something simpler first: I raised the bar, so to speak. I just put the polycarbonate sheets up higher.
Will that work? I doubt it, but there’s no harm in trying before investing in something else and letting her make a total fool out of us again!
