Keeping our community animals safe:
1 Keep them safely indoors, as many as you can.
2 Do not keep them in cages in the porch. They have a better chance of escaping when free roaming than being locked in a cage in the porch (where thieves can climb over the gate).
3 Be very careful when rehoming rescued animals. Vet the adopters very, very carefully. If in doubt, do not hand over your animals.
4 If you believe that cats and dogs should never be used as food, that an amendment to the current Animal Act 1953 as well as the Animal Welfare Act 2015 is needed (as what Taiwan has done this year – banning dog and cat meat), then speak directly to the minister in charge (the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry).
In any case, the brutal facts have to be said. Food choice is a very sensitive area to the majority of humans. Why so? Because eating is a basal pleasure and humans do not like their food choice being questioned or judged. That said, it would still do well for animal lovers to look at their own food choice and do the needful, in the name of being an “animal lover”.
Why love one and eat the other?
