I was dead tired last night.
We went for a wedding dinner and came back late. I wanted to ensure Daffodil wouldn’t wake me up at 3am again, so I fed her at 1am, before going to bed.
Like clockwork, she came to wake me up many times in the middle of the night. It must have been her usual time at 3-4am again.
I was too tired to get up and asked Daffodil to please sleep.
By 6am, the “second wave” had come up – that would be Ginger and Vincent. Heidi was around too.
It was, of course, time to get up.
But Daffodil was nowhere to be seen.
I fed everyone and started to look for Daffodil.
Where was she?
Then, it dawned on me – she’s done it this time.
Daffodil has escaped.
I looked at the rocks at Stargate2 – not moved at all.
Looks like the only way she could have escaped would be be scaling Stargate2 and defying the polycarbonate sheets.
But how?
A big, long stretch? Using the bolts as steps?
It isn’t easy at all, but when a cat wants to do something, “When there’s a will, there’s a way” seems an understatement.
I quickly went out to the porch to look for her.
Standing at the gate, I looked out and there she was, looking at me, from the playground.
Hello there…good morning! Took you THIS long to find out I had escaped?
I could almost hear her mocking me.
Zurik was there, somewhere at the playground too.
I rushed in to get the remote control to open the gate.
By the time I got out, she had crossed the road and was at a neighbour’s house, three houses down.
Sigh….
Once she enters someone’s house, it’s going to be very difficult to get her out.
Zurik was the one who chased her back.
Yes, Zurik was trying to help me.
But by now, Zurik was standing at our gate, so there was no way Daffi would come back.
I had to get Zurik back into the house, against his will.
So I carried Zurik back and put him inside.
Then I went outside again.
Daffodil must be hungry and I think she wants to come back to eat.
But the Daffi Defiance is at play here.
From three houses away, she now came back to next-door, which is now vacant, but will be tenanted soon. Oh dear, they all love this house because I think it’s been their “playground” even before we moved here. The previous tenants were usually away at work in the daytime.
I had to lure her out with some food, and since she loves kibble, I had to use kibble. Only kibble can make the sound to attract her attention.
It took quite a long time, but it didn’t work.
Meanwhile, Zurik is inside.
Zurik scares Daffodil, so I had not choice but to “remove” Zurik from the crime scene…for now.
After some time, I kind of “knew” she would be back, so I went to look in the porch.
Sure enough…Daffi was in our porch now.
Silakan, puan…silakan.
Nope. Not yet.
Not hungry enough?
Also, Heidi had come, so Daffi really backed off now.
She went back outside the gate.
I had to put Heidi in the storeroom. This is all very tricky.
After a few more minutes…
Yes, she is back.
Thank goodness for hunger, really.
As she was approaching, Ginger came…oh no, no….
She backed away again.
In went Ginger into the storeroom with Heidi.
After a few more minutes…
She was very, very cautious, but I guess hunger won.
Madame walked in, and totally ignored the food.
Who says I’m hungry? I just pity you, that’s all.
Would Madame be interested to savour some cuisine now?
Meanwhile…
I hope Zurik doesn’t think he’s being used…
But he isn’t too happy being confined, anyway.
He does have to go home too.
Madame eats.
Ginger and Heidi are let out of the storeroom.
After letting Madame settle in for about half an hour, we fed her her medicines, cleaned her tumour thoroughly and applied the paste. We also trimmed her nails on all four paws. Of course Daffodil wasn’t happy, but some things just have to be done.
Daffodil has a tumour and it’s serious. So far, we think the tumour has shrunk a little because we notice that the skin around it is wrinkled and sagging. Just a little. Treatment takes time. Even with humans with such external tumours, it needs about 2 months before significant results can be seen.
We cannot let her keep escaping.
We are convinced it’s these bolts that she is using as “steps”. The polycarb doesn’t cover the bolts.
We have several options now:
1 Put a longer and wider polycarb which covers the bolts on both ends.
2 Raise the polycarb to the top of Stargate2, screwed onto the gate, like how we fortified Stargate1 when Pole escaped 5 years ago.
3 Install a 45 degree fence on top of Stargate2, right across, but this will take at least 2 weeks (for the galvanisation process).
And meanwhile, do we lock Daffodil in a bedroom, in a cage or in Bunny’s Place?
Today is Sunday and the shops are closed. The earliest I can get the new polycarb is tomorrow.
Why can’t Daffodil be happy being inside?
It’s not like it’s too small a place – she has the whole house, the patio and a garden too.
But cats will be cats.
I do what I want, and you cannot stop me….at all.
