40 DOGS STILL URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP

A few days ago we told you about 40 dogs needing urgent medical care in the southern province of Had Yai. You’ve helped us raise over $5,000 to save their lives. We are deeply grateful for your compassion and generosity. Thank you.

Two weeks ago, government officials rounded up 245 stray dogs in Had Yai and nearby island Ko Yo. They planned to bring them to a government shelter over 1,300 km away in northeastern Thailand.

Local activists protested. 195 dogs in good health were taken to a foster home in Lam Luk Ka. The Department of Livestock Development has agreed to sterilise them. Unfortunately, 50 dogs were extremely sick, suffering from serious diseases including cancer, parvo, and distemper. These dogs were taken to a disused slaughterhouse in Had Yai. With no funds to treat them, Watchdog Thailand have asked Soi Dog to help. Local volunteers have taken all the dogs to nearby private vet clinics for treatment.

Sadly, some of the dogs � including mothers and their puppies � were so sick that they have already died. But many of these dogs still stand a chance at a happy life. They can only get there with your help.

In the meantime, Soi Dog is working with government authorities in an attempt to change their policy of rounding up and impounding dogs in locations with no budget to care for them properly. Soi Dog is encouraging instead a sterilisation and vaccination programme.
