RIP dear Rock. I carried you home from SPCA about 14 years ago as a puppy. You have been a good dog, sweet natured and gentle, always ready to guard our house. As I stayed with you till you took your last breath, I sang our fave song ‘It’s a Rocky Rock World’ to the tune of ‘It’s a Small World’. You used to shake your butt and bounce around as I sang, with that happy dumb look. Yes,you may not be too bright, but you were a faithful, which is more than I can say about certain humans in my life. Any wonder that I have always loved animals? You loved unconditionally as a dog, you never hurt me, irritated me or caused me heartaches, you never betrayed my trust and took whatever love I could give gratefully. You were unselfish and without malice. As you grew so old and tired, you have given up on life. I asked the Lord to take you home peacefully over Rainbow Bridge where you can be young again and run free to play in warm sunshine.
Yes, you were once a stray who could even be euthanized if unadopted, but to me you were a family member. You deserved to live and be loved. Today, as I join others in Penang to march against abuse of all animals, I think of all my pets – 4 other dogs, 4 cats and others furry and feathery as well. No animal deserves to be abandoned on the streets to die of disease and starvation or to be so cruelly abused, beaten and killed by heartless humans who are worst than animals. It’s a long fight ahead, a very long road for us, but we have started and will not give up. For all dogs and cats out there on the street or waiting to be euthanized in shelters – all of you are worth this fight as all of you are God’s beloved creatures.
