I stay at the apartments near Ikea. Beside me are the notoriously well-known low-cost flats (Block A, B, C), occupied by mainly malays, indians & foreign workers. Ocassionally, I would help my Malay friend sell burgers at Block C. There are constant cases of residents fr high floors, throwing bags of rubbish at ppl, throwing stones and breaking car windscreen, even throwing scissors which sheared our burger stall's tent. Recently, they threw a kitten from the 17th floor. Earlier, my friend's sister rescued a kitten tied up in a bag of rubbish filled with water, unfortunately, the lil one did not survive.
I've been really wanting to spay the female cats there. I needed the residents' help to get to the cats, but the malays are quite adamant against spaying. I've been trying to convince my friend for a few months and finally, thank God for opening a way out - Her sister started working at Pusat Kucing Zaazs (http://www.pusatkucingzaazs.com) and everything fell into place soon after. - She learnt the importance of spaying from experience at work, - she's able to access the stray cats at her area - her boss allowed her to bring home some cages+carriers so she could confine and fast them that night itself, once she's able to catch them. - she could conveniently bring the cats straight to work the nxt morning for spaying and return them a week after - she had refered me to talk to her boss and her boss agreed to a package price of Rm200 for fleas/tick treatment+spaying+boarding for the community female cats.
My job is to find funds for it, and would like to request your help for some subsidy upon fund availability, as it could come up to tens of female cats and I won't be able to afford it.
I understand that I'm suppose to send in a photo of the cat to request for subsidy, prior to the surgery. The prob is this lady can only access the cats at night after work, and once she gets them in the cage, she'll have to bring straight to work the nxt day. She can take a photo for me that night or nxt day, but the cat would already be at the Pusat Kucing for spaying. In this case, can this work? If not, it's ok as i understand it's breaching your policy.
Of course, if any of the female cats are found to be expecting upon operating, then I shall bear the full cost. Please let me know if this works for you. Thanks! Rgds,Dawn
We're extending our subsidy of RM100 per female cat and RM60 for male cats for these community cats. The photos can be taken upon the cats being caught or at the vet's. I've also offered a further subsidy since the package is RM200 per cat and there are so many of them, but Dawn says she will raise the funds on her own. We hope all goes well. So good of Dawn and her friend to take this initiative. P.S. We really encourage rescuers and caregivers to use their own vets for geographical convenience and also for confidence (you are more comfortable with the practices of your own vet). We have a standard subsidy rate for spay-neuter, which is found in our policies: http://www.myanimalcare.org/p/policies.html
