Rosies Dawn (Day 15)

Yesterday, even though the blood test results gave us a little bit of hope, Rosie’s condition didn’t seem good. She seemed miserable the whole day, sleeping at the corner of the living room for hours on end.
The vet had always said that while numbers tell us something, the clinical condition of the animal matters too. We need both to evaluate the wellbeing of the animal. And Rosie is losing condition. More worrying, is the PCV. The vet wanted to check her PCV today, but later, decided perhaps Monday would be better. Let’s give it a bit more time (hopefully, to improve).
We discussed the possibility of giving Rosie EPO or anabolic steroids to boost her PCV, if it falls further. Anabolic steroids is different from steroids.
Yesterday evening, I had to add Prednisolone (steroids) and Ursofalk for Rosie. Ursofalk is powder in a capsule and Rosie is supposed to take 1/4 per day. So I had to divide the powder into 4 parts and mix yesterday’s portion with wetfood. Somehow, Rosie did not like it at all and started frothing at the mouth. That was quite difficult and I hoped she didn’t throw out the steroid tablet as well.
So, yesterday was a bad day.
However, when my husband came back, Rosie perked up. A lot.
He is Rosie’s favourite person.
After all, five-and-a-half years ago, when we first moved here, Rosie followed my husband back to our house from the playground. Then, she brought Ginger and Daffodil. Rosie’s the leader of the PatioCat Clan.
She really perked up when he came back after being away for two days.
She slept between our pillows last night and at 5.30am this morning, Rosie woke me up. She wanted food. So we came downstairs…
She ate…hungrily!
It’s still Go! kibble and a lot more Primal this time.
By “a lot”, I mean a lot more than yesterday (which was just sprinkles). I’m glad she is wiling to eat Primal even though she prefers it dry.
Then, it was medicine time…sorry, Rosie. I use different wetfoods to give her her medicine. Today, it was Natural Balance. By now, I think she knows how many tablets she is supposed to take at each session, so after the last one was given, she loudly declared “that’s enough”. Okay, Rosie, Okay.
I hope Rosie appetite is a good gauge of her condition. Because her appetite is improving. Rosie’s condition is made a bit more difficult because of her FIV+ condition. She would need more time and support to turn around.
We took a calculated risk by starting her on steroids. We hope it’s the correct move.
