Rosies PCV Dropped (Day 13) Not Good

It’s not good news.

Rosie’s PCV (packed cell volume) dropped from 51% (17th Feb) to 27% today (2nd March). This means her liver isn’t making blood. The borderline for normal is 28%.

Update: Rosie’s other vet’s opinion on the PCV.  51% shows dehydration on 17th Feb. For normal cats, it should be around 35% or so. Blood is made by the bone marrow, kidneys and liver. Suggests to test the PCV every 2 days to see if there is a drop. A drop in the PCV could be due to a blood parasite or cancer. Rosie is already on Doxy for any bacteria or blood parasite. As for cancer, there is no cure.

Blood was taken today and the rest of the results will only be known tomorrow. Rosie’s liver felt “very big” today. It’s worrying.

Her weight is 3.5kg (a slight drop).

She was given subcut fluids again today.

Upon the advice of Rosie’s vet, I have written to another vet who specialises in internal medicine in UPM to seek her advice on Rosie.

We will wait for the rest of the results to decide on the next course of action, which ought to be the administration of steroids. If Rosie’s condition is due to an auto-immune mediated problem, the recommended medication is also steroids.

evening

It’s hard to fathom. Rosie’s appetite seems to have improved and yet, her PCV dropped so much.

She is still alert and curious.

Her liver is seriously ill and we don’t know the cause. We have done everything that we can for her and yet, there seems to be no improvement so far. In fact, the PCV deteriorated very significantly.

Thank you for all your kind wishes and prayers for Rosie.
