BLIND DOG TRAPPED IN WALL GETS LOVE-OF-A-LIFETIME SURPRISE!!!!

One wonders how an elderly dog who has lost both her sight and hearing could possibly survive on the streets of Bosnia. But Annie was doing just that, finding food and shelter with the help of her daughter Sandy. The two were inseparable, sharing a true ‘love of a lifetime’ bond. It was them against the world. But when Sandy was caught by dog catchers, Annie was suddenly alone. The perils of street life eventually caught up with Annie when she fell straight down into a 10 foot deep gap between two walls. She was completely stuck. But this curse would quickly turn out to be one gigantic blessing in disguise…

“She was lucky because a neighbor called rescuer Bojan Veselica,” explains Sandra Jensen of Animal Welfare Advocates for Bonsia. “He needed the help of two men to get her out.”

The men worked together to compress and maneuver Annie’s body into such a position that they could slide her out without harm. But they quickly realized she was completely feral.

“This dog was never touched or captured by humans until now,”Bojan explains still nursing the bite Annie gave him during the rescue. “She was scared, sad and in shock, almost like a wild animal.”

Initially Bojan had no choice but to take Annie to the Prnjavor public shelter where he tries to care for nearly 150 dogs. The pound is a place of significant neglect and Bojan is one of the few who try to make life better for the dogs there. Truthfully, it’s no place for any dog, let alone one with such extreme special needs, but Bojan needed a temporary solution. And, he also had a surprise for her….

After nearly a full year apart, Annie would at last be reunited with her daughter Sandy. Though she could not see her, Annie instantly knew Sandy by scent and Annie simple melted behind her sweet daughter, perhaps completely amazed that they could at last be together again.

“If only I had a place to try and socialize them and we could find a home for them together, it would be one of the greatest rescue in my life,” Bojan said.

And it appears that someone was listening, because Bojan’s wish has come true.

UK based rescuer Lesley Watkins agreed to take the mother and daughter and to make them comfortable in their own private “cottage”. Lesley is highly experienced in high-stakes rescues and only asked for a bit of help with the cost of flying the dogs to the UK. The international animal rescue charity Harmony Fund was asked if they would grant this wish and sponsor the costs of bringing the girls to safety. Yes, we readily accepted the challenge.

Today the pair are at peace in their new surroundings. There is no search for food here and no danger from cars or dog fights. The dogs have no fear of humans here and although Annie’s world is dark and quiet, she is content to simply live with her daughter at her side.

Turns out, you don’t need your eyes or your ears to feel the sunlight on your face. Just ask Annie.
