Dolphins, Sea Turtles And Birds Are Eating Plastic Bags

Here’s a petition from Care2 Action Alerts:

As hungry sea turtles glide through the waters around Australia, more and more of them are encountering a new snack. But the problem with this snack is that it’s actually a plastic bag – and it will ultimately kill them. In fact, around one out of every three leatherback turtles has plastic in its stomach right now.

Sign Mehreen’s petition urging the government of New South Wales in Australia to ban plastic bags!

Australians use a whopping 3.92 billion plastic bags every year, and around 10 million new bags every single day. Most of those end up either in landfills – or in the water. Marine life like sea turtles, whales, dolphins, seabirds, and fish mistake plastic debris for food and eat these non-degradable substances. This causes blocks in their digestive systems, and it frequently kills them.

Only a ban on single-use plastic bags at retail outlets can curb the number of plastic bags that kill these innocent creatures. Many of the regional governments in Australia have passed measures to outlaw single-use plastic bags, but New South Wales has not.

The Green party recently introduced a bill to ban these bags, but they need our support to help convince Parliament to pass it. Will you sign the petition to show New South Wales that the world is waiting for them to do the right thing?

This is a global problem and is happening all over the world. Our life begins in the ocean and it is the ocean that gives life to the land.

Let’s all do our part, do not throw plastic bags. They will only end up in the ocean and destroy marine life.

#BebasPlastik, go green, save ocean life!
