MEET OUR NATIVE WILDLIFE TWIN-BARRED TREE SNAKE
The twin-barred tree snake (Chrysopelea pelias) is also known as banded flying snake. Just like the closely related and bigger paradise tree snakes (Chrysopelea paradisi), this species can glide from a higher level to a lower level by flattening their body in a curved fashion and projecting themselves off a branch.
Relatively rare, these beautiful snakes are characterised by their series of broad reddish orange patterns along their body that are separated by black, white and black rectangles. They can grow to about 70-75 cm in length, and carry a mild venom just enough to paralyse their prey usually lizards.
If you (are lucky enough to) sight one of these snakes in a garden, tree or any green space, it is best to leave them alone. They are shy like most wild animals, and will try their best to move away. If they are in distress or displaced, please call our 24hr wildlife rescue hotline 97837782 for advice and help.
Have a great week ahead everyone!
