TANGLED, THE EQUATORIAL SPITTING COBRA GETS HIS FREEDOM
In early January, the ACRES wildlife rescue team received a call about a snake in a canal who got entangled in fishing line. People were fishing in this are although it is prohibited. Unfortunately, the fishing line and hooks got caught on Tangled.
We had to very carefully and slowly remove the hooks and cut the fishing lines which were starting to cut into his scales. It was a slow process and we finally managed to free Tangled from the fishing lines. Luckily , he did not suffer any severe injuries or bleeding. He was still active and alert and we decided that he was fit for release.
Illegal fishing and abandoned fishing lines has caused much misery for many animals. We often get calls about animals who get entangled or get the hooks lodged inside their bodies. Very often, the victims do not make it when the hooks get stuck on vital organs or cause severe bleeding. Everyone can do their part to stop illegal fishing. The public can call the PUB hotline at 1800-2846600 should they spot any irresponsible fishing activities.
