My First Foldable Bag!

Update: Green Bag is SOLD! There are orders for another three of this size too!
The original post:
Previously, all the bags we’ve sold to raise funds were sewn by my mum. I don’t know how to sew a bag!
But I’m really interested in these foldable bags in support of #BebasPlastik and ocean life, so I decided to learn how to sew bags. It’s not just sewing two pieces of cloth together. The tricky part (for me, at least), is to create the base. I’ve never quite understood how that is done.
Incidentally, last night, we already had an order for 12 big foldable bags!
So this morning, I drove over to my mum’s for a quick tutorial….
My mum explained how the base is done and I came home with this small sample.
I’ve got my cloth here.
It’s all about going green, so a piece of green cloth it is.
I sewed the two sides together, with French seam so that it would be neat. That’s the easy part.
French seam on the inside – nice and neat. No parts sticking out.
Now, the base…
Following mum’s sample, I created that triangular piece to make the base.
Hmm…quite tricky. Luckily I had Jennifer’s bag as a sample too.
YES! I did it!
Now, for the other side.
Done!
Now, the two handles.
Handles done.
My bag is ready!
I did it! And that was really, really fun!
It measures 18 in by 15 in. We figured this is a practical and useful size.
Check for foldability…
Fold into three pieces first. Handles in.
Then into a square.
Here it is, nicely tucked in!
Tadah!!
My first-ever bag!
We are selling these bags to raise funds for the animals.
They are RM35 for two pieces (intro offer).
Update on 8th Jan 2016: The bags are RM20 each now.
If you’d like to order, please write to me at chankahyein@gmail.com.
(The above bag is for sale too!)
