End The Torture & Slaughter Of Man's Best Friend

Soi Dog Foundation is pleased to announce the first known arrest of dog meat traders in Indonesia.

The arrests happened in Bandung the capital of West Java which is approximately 150 kms east of the capital Jakarta. 4 men were arrested and are currently in police custody. They are being charged under both the criminal and Food hygiene laws, which carry maximum sentences of 7 years and 4 years in prison respectively.

One of the offenders was caught after poisoning a pet dog and selling to the gang. Police found a large quantity of both raw and cooked dog meat. The local police chief described the arrest as “dismantling the local network which has been plaguing our society.”

Local animal rights activists in Indonesia have recently completed a full investigation of the trade in Indonesia which has been financed by Soi Dog Foundation, along with Humane Society International and Change For Animals Foundation.

Further interceptions are expected. Meetings will be held next year with Government officials to crack down on the trade which is widespread in Indonesia and involves some of the most cruel methods of torture and killing we have found in Asia. Hanging dogs and then blow-torching their fur off whilst still alive is a common practice.

Police found evidence to suggest that such methods were being used by the gang. The undercover team have amassed a lot of evidence but video of such practices is far too graphic to share on Facebook.
