ON BEHALF OF THE MACAQUES, THANK YOU TEMASEK SECONDARY SCHOOL AND NEA!
Following some feedback about monkey sightings around Temasek Secondary School and Upper Changi Road, our campaigns executive went down to survey the area around the school to find out more information behind the sightings. We were shocked to see a huge construction site that cleared out a lot of land for a new development.
After the survey, ACRES and Temasek Secondary School discussed plans to prevent possible conflict scenarios. Our plans included educating students and staff members about what they should do when they are come face-to-face with monkeys. We shared our advisory sheets with them and we are glad that the school has put them up on their campus.
We also assisted with getting in touch with National Environment Agency (NEA) to replace the public dustbins located outside their campus from the usual opened bins to specially designed wildlife- proof dustbins.
The long-tailed macaques are monkeys who prefer the fringe of the forests. When forests are cleared, these monkeys are very likely to be encountered by humans and the least we can do is to live in harmony with them. Do you live in a location with high human-macaque conflict? Please consider replacing the public dustbins around your estate to animal proof ones. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Temasek Secondary School for being animal conscious and for National Environment Agency (NEA)s prompt response with facilitating the change in dustbins.
