SOME GOOD NEWS COMING OUT OF CHINA
In the latest victory in the fight to end the Asian dog meat trade, China’s large online food delivery service, Ele.me has said that restaurants that serve dog meat will be removed from its platform.
This will be a huge blow to these restaurants, with approximately 300 establishments losing access to a significant customer base.
Ele.me normally handles an average of 5 million food orders a day and has more than 70 million users in over 700 Chinese cities.
Ele.me stated that dog meat restaurants will be removed due to concerns over food safety issues but there is also of course huge negative publicity around the consumption of dog meat in China, which is a year-round activity, despite the notoriety of annual festivals such as Yulin.
This is a huge step forward for Chinese animal rights activists who are fighting tirelessly to end the dog meat trade forever.
