BURGER KING SAYS NO TO GESTATION CRATES AND BATTERY CAGES IN LATIN AMERICA!
With this announcement, Burger King – via its parent company Restaurant Brands International – becomes the first major fast food chain to set a timeline for switching to 100 percent cage-free eggs and gestation crate-free pork in its entire supply chain in Latin America.
Burger King has a commitment to transitioning to 100% cage-free eggs globally, with the goal of accomplishing it by 2025 for the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Latin America.
But this latest announcement goes further! Because it also includes a commitment to sourcing pork globally only from suppliers that do not use gestation stalls, and Burger King aims to accomplish this goal in North America by 2022 and in Latin America by 2025. This follows over a year of discussions with Humane Society International.
We hope that the food companies in Singapore follow the same path, and switch to sourcing meat and eggs from cage-free and crate-free systems. Cruel gestation crates and battery cages shouldn’t have a place anywhere in our global food system.
