In conjunction with World Animal Day, we would like to remember all the dogs that came our way but could not be saved in spite of our best efforts. We will always remember these dogs and pups for the pain and suffering they had gone through.
DUMEX
Dumex was rescued in Cheras and was sent to live in another rescue groups shelter. There she contracted tick fever and by the time she came to us she was way gone. We admitted her to Gasing but Dumex died after a few days.
KTM
When we read about KTM being tied up at the Kepong commuter station, we were horrified. We made several attempts to look for him but without success. Finally he was found in the Selayang Pound. But he was there for 10 days and when he was removed he was severely ill. We managed to keep him alive for 40 days while we confronted KTM for the atrocities committed by its workers against this dog whom we named KTM. KTM's chairman issued a statement expressing regret over the incident but at the same times giving reasons why KTM had been brutalised. His reasons were not accepted and what had happened to the dog will always be a black mark against KTM.
QWANG BOY
Qwang Boy was rescued in this condition and was fostered by one of our friends. He blossomed into a handsome fellow and eventually went to live with our friends in GOE. Sadly his defective front limb was becoming infected too often and the only solution available was amputation. Unfortunately Qwang Boy did not make it through the surgery and we were told by the vet that this was due to an enlarged heart. We are happy that he had comfort and love before he left.
UNNAMED ACCIDENT VICTIM
This poor dog was a hit and run victim and we were alerted about her after she had been lying there for almost a month with some people giving her food and water. Both her feet were crushed and she had just there without being able to move in the rain and sun for such a long time. She died after two days because her organs had already started to shut down when she was brought to us.
THE KLANG POUND PUPPIES
These were the puppies that were given to us by Animalcare in Dec 2009 after a pound rescue operation. All were infected with either parvo, corona or distemper - some were infected by two and some all three. Most of the puppies did not make it except three. One was fostered and adopted out by Lynette - one more Bella living now with our friend Mandy whilst her brother Shankar is still with us. The raffia string around denotes the infection they were suffering - blue for parvo, yellow for corrona and green for distemper.
HANDSOME
Handsome was a 12-year-old pet of an affluent family in Klang. Apparently he had taken ill and the family dumped him outside their gate to die. Someone sent us pics 0f him and we asked one of our panel vets to go and see. The vet brought him back to the clinic and Handsome died two hours later. We have filed a report with the Department of Veterinary Services and also conducted a funeral ceremony outside the house to drive across our point.
BLACK DOG
Black Dog was a hit and run victim who had been semi-unconscious for several days when he was spotted. The vet thinks he must have been in that condition for at least a week given the condition of his maggot wound on the chest. He died at our panel vet the following day.
LITTLE PUPPY
We rescued this puppy from Kapar, Klang after we were alerted by a factory worker that his colleague had kicked a puppy. The puppy had convulsed before becoming unconscious. We rushed the puppy to Gasing where it was put on drips and treated. The puppy died a week later without regaining consciousness due to head trauma. We later found out that the perpetrator was wearing industrial boots when he had kicked the puppy.
JAMES DEAN a.k.a HERNIA BOY
Hernia Boy was rescued from Kapar, Klang after he was mowed down by a car. He suffered from diaphragmatic hernia and could not stand or walk. His internal organs were all messed-up. He died of complications seven months after his second surgery after which he could walk and stand.
KRAMER
Kramer was brought to one of our adoption drives by his owner after the family's electronic gate hit him and broke his back. Kramer was only about two months then. He was fostered by Christine first followed by Irene and Kay. He really blossomed under Irene and Kay but died tragically during castration. It is a tragedy that still haunts us all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtzicsZ4KGo&feature=autofb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wx5Fa_m2lE
TOBY
Toby was a strange puppy. He appeared sick and had severe breathing problems. The vet said Toby suffered from various congenital defects and told us to give him a good time before he goes. We took him home and did just that. Toby died two months later in his sleep.
HIGHWAY
Highway was found zipping up and down the Kesas Highway. We managed to catch him and admitted him to a veterinary clinic where he was admitted and treated for his skin. He was there for a month but died a day after castration. We are still not sure what happened.
ROLEX
Rolex was rescued by our rescuer friends Leigh and Joanne. He had multiple problems and we sponsored his treatment. Besides having severe heartworm, tick fever and TVT. He was an old dog and could not handle the multiple infections as well as his head wound which had over 200 maggots.
SEREMBAN PUPPIES
We will never forget this incident whwreby we received a strange call one Sunday saying that they were sending us some puppies from Seremban. The caller said she had put the puppies in a taxi and sent them to Klang and told us to tell the cab driver where in Klang to send the puppies when he called. Concerned about the puppies we gave the cabbie directions to go to our panel clinic and waited there for him. When he arrived we were horrified with the entire situation. There were more than 2o one and two month old puppies packed in two boxes that were placed in the boot of the taxi. It was a hot day and the humid condition in the booth must have really made the puppies suffer. When we opened the boxes, the puppies were gasping for breath and some had died. The pups in one of the boxes were also covered in bloody diarrhea indicating that they were suffering from parvo. We treated them and inspite all that we did - four of the 11 infected puppies died. this puppy was the toughest and fought very hard but still succumbed. We will never forget the Seremban puppies.
BLACKIE
Mano, who was an independent rescuer from Old Klang Road, called us frantically one day in 2009 saying that someone had dumped a large black dog near the market where he took care of his strays. He said some of the stall owners had beaten and kicked the dog but the dog just lay there because it was too sick to move. We rushed over and took the dog to the vet where it tested positive for distemper. They eyeballs were also very inflamed. We named him Blackie and Blackie died at the clinic the following morning.
BABY'S PUPPIES
Baby was brought to us by a tailor in Klang. She was pregnant and was one of the strays fed by the lady. What we did not know was that Baby was a distemper carrier and should be kept quarantined from all other dogs as although she does not get ill with the infection, she gives it to others. Once we found out she was a carrier after a random check, we removed her puppies and sent them to foster homes - all but one died due to distemper. The surviving puppy is also a carrier and both the puppy and Baby lead a secluded life away from other dogs under the care of some dedicated people.
LITTLE BOY
Little Boy and his sister were rescued from a garbage dump in Klang and came filled with worms. Little Boy also suffered from a prolapsed anus and was too young and weak to handle his health issues. His sister was eventually adopted and lives in Taman Tun - she is almost two now.
HOLLY a.k.a SASKIA
This is one of the most tragic cases that we had handled. Saskia and a bunch of puppies were rescued from the DBKL pound by an independent rescuer. When we went to check on the puppies with Eileen Ng, we were horrified that nothing had been done to treat Saskia's wound. We confiscated Saskia and sent her for treatment before sending her to Lynette to be fostered. Now, Lynette is one of the best fosterers that w know and it was not long before Saskia blossomed into a beautiful pup. She was adopted by a lovely family and had led a happy life for a while. One day the front gate was opened for the family car to be taken out - Saskia ran out and was knocked down by a car. We were rankled and we still are.
Rescuer's Rainbow Bridge Unlike most days at Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All of the recent arrivals had no idea what to think, as they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had been waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was going on and started to gather at the pathway leading to The Bridge to watch It wasn't long before an elderly animal came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. The other animals, the ones who had been there for a while, knew what his story was right away, for they had seen this happen far too often.
He approached slowly, obviously in great emotional pain, but with no sign of injury or illness. Unlike all of the other animals waiting at The Bridge, this animal had not been restored to youth and made healthy and vigorous again. As he walked toward The Bridge, he watched all of the other animals watching him. He knew he was out of place here and the sooner he could cross over, the happier he would be. But, alas, as he approached The Bridge, his way was barred by the appearance of an Angel who apologized, but told him that he would not be able to pass. Only those animals who were with their people could pass over Rainbow Bridge.
With no place else to turn to, the elderly animal turned towards the fields before The Bridge and saw a group of other animals like himself, also elderly and infirm. They weren't playing, but rather simply lying on the green grass, forlornly staring out at the pathway leading to The Bridge. And so, he took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting.
One of the newest arrivals at The Bridge didn't understand what he had just witnessed and asked one of the animals that had been there for awhile to explain it to him.
"You see, that poor animal was a rescue. He was turned in to rescue just as you see him now, an older animal with his fur graying and his eyes clouding. He never made it out of rescue and passed on with only the love of his rescuer to comfort him as he left his earthly existence. Because he had no family to give his love to, he has no one to escort him across The Bridge."
The first animal thought about this for a minute and then asked, "So what will happen now?" As he was about to receive his answer, the clouds suddenly parted and the gloom lifted. Approaching The Bridge could be seen a single person and among the older animals, a whole group was suddenly bathed in a golden light and they were all young and healthy again, just as they were in the prime of life.
"Watch, and see.", said the second animal. A second group of animals from those waiting came to the pathway and bowed low as the person neared. At each bowed head, the person offered a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. The newly restored animals fell into line and followed him towards The Bridge. They all crossed The Bridge together.
"What happened?"
"That was a rescuer. The animals you saw bowing in respect were those who found new homes because of her work. They will cross when their new families arrive. Those you saw restored were those who never found homes. When a rescuer arrives, they are allowed to perform one, final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort those poor animals that they couldn't place on earth across The Rainbow Bridge."
"I think I like rescuers", said the first animal.
"So does GOD", was the reply.
