ANIMAL CARE UPDATE 13 SEP 2016

Meet Andrea and Audrey, the giant Asian pond turtles rescued off the roads in Singapore checking out their revamped enclosure together. We have given a little touch to their enclosure with the help of volunteers – by changing their tank set ups and enclosure layout. This will also serve as an environmental enrichment to both of them who appreciate privacy from care-givers (and also between themselves).

The revamp also included changes to our filtration systems. After using commercially made filter boxes, which are expensive and not custom made, we have been looking into changing the systems that are cost effective at the same time functional. With some innovation, experimentation and shopping at the right places, we have managed to assemble and make our own filter boxes with UV light and multi-layered filtration materials. These systems cost us much less, and we have learnt through different combinations to ensure that the water is kept clean and flowing.
