TCM Treatment For Tiger

Tiger’s epileptic seizures have been getting worse by the day. Throughout this week I was able to monitor him closely and from an interval of 3-4 days, it became 1-2 days and yesterday, he threw two seizures in the same day, just five hours apart.

His vet agrees that there is a deterioration. The next step in allopathic medicine would be to consider a drug (either prochloroperazine or phenobarbital).

Tiger has been on the supplements for a few weeks too and they don’t seem to be working for him because the fits are definitely getting more frequent now. For the last three days, he has been hiding under the sofa and as of yesterday, he even refuses to come out for food. He does eat, but he doesn’t dare come out from under the sofa anymore. There is a marked deterioration in his condition and quality of life.

Tiger needs alternative treatment.

So yesterday, after we got the blood test results, I thought it’s time to try TCM. I was lucky there was a slot today, so off we went for Tiger’s acupuncture and TCM session.

Tiger was very good during the acupuncture session. Seven needles were used and he stayed very still throughout the 15 minutes. What a good boy you are, Tiger.

Adopting a TCM method would require that all western supplements be stopped and Tiger is to eat a home-cooked meal of only 1 protein and pumpkin. No fish. We have to avoid chemicals, as far as possible. The naturopathic supplements for Tiger are probiotics, Bach Flower Rescue Remedy and a Chinese medicine called Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin (in powder form).

I’ve also noticed that Tiger tends to throw a fit each time he eats a certain brand of wetfood that contains many ingredients (I was thinking of giving him more variety in his food by using different brands). Maybe he is hypersensitive to a certain ingredient in that brand. So, no more of that brand too.

We came home and I quickly went off to purchase organic pumpkin for Tiger. I steamed the pumpkin and mixed it with a bit of water, then mixed it with Monge chicken and Tiger obediently licked it all up. The probiotics and Bach Flower Rescue Remedy were mixed with his food. He ate his Chinese medicine too.

I’m not sure where I can get small pieces of organic chicken, though. If you know, please let me know. I know a shop that sells whole organic chicken, but not parts. How reliable are the antiobiotic-free chicken in supermarkets?  Does anyone know?

Tiger

I need to monitor Tiger very closely for today and the next few days. If his seizures do not worsen, we will go back for acupuncture.

Meanwhile, one step at a time. Tiger is back to hiding under the sofa again. He must be feeling defenseless and weak.

Tiger and all of us thank everyone who is wishing him well.
