The Story Of Russell Crow (a Rescue Story)
A few days ago, a friend texted to ask if we know of any bird vets – he had rescued a young bird with a broken wing.
There are many vets around town, but many do not treat birds.
So I texted a few friends and thankfully, Koo was able to provide the name and contact details of a very experienced vet of birds and exotic animals. We’ve also had the privilege of hearing this elderly vet speak at a few previous Animal Awareness Days and yes, he is very knowledgeable and experienced.
Here’s the story of the rescued bird, now named “Russell Crow”, courtesy of the friend who rescued him.
We hope Russell will heal well and be strong again.
Thanks for your help in finding info for the vet! Below is a brief story of my crow encounter… the most amazing part is how united they are!
The collage of photos show the crows surrounding me, and there are some photos of the rescued crow.

[DAY 1]
Now I know why it’s called a Murder of Crows. I was stared down and screamed at by some hundred crows from all four corners of the sky, surely planning to murder me.
I came across a poor crow with a broken wing, and tried catching it to bring to the vet. Unfortunately, I failed as it hopped and dodged around so fast, finally disappearing off a dark drain hole.
For 30 minutes, its flying friends tried to guard it and chase me away, probably thinking I meant harm. Dozens were circling my head and zooming right past my face, the rest screaming on the wires and some poop-bombing down. The puzzled guard ran over to check out the deafening noise and crows fiercely circling me. Some even tailed me home and screamed, as if to ensure I don’t return and harm the bird.
I’m truly impressed by the strong friendship bond of crows, which have demonstrated great puzzle-solving intelligence and mourn the dead too.
[DAY 2]
Finally managed to locate and capture him in a drain with the help of my mom and security guard.
Spent hours calling, driving and hunting for suitable vets, got rejected and passed around from vet to vet. My dog’s vet did a quick checkup and verified that it’s indeed a broken / dislocated wing bone, but doesn’t have the facilities to treat it.
Apparently there are only 2 vets in the entire (Klang Valley) galaxy who treat birds. One is UPM’s vet, which only treats birds on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Another is the contact you gave me, Exotic Animal Vet at Taman Melawati, a lecturer who only opens up his house for treatment and surgery at night (9pm – 11pm).
