The Lovely Little Girl In Pink

If you remember, just one month ago, I encountered that lying boy who threw sticks at Mr Zurik at the park: https://myanimalcare.org/2016/06/06/why-do-children-do-such-things/ and I wrote that our world is indeed doomed if this is an example of our next generation.

Well, I stand corrected after a lovely and heartwarming encounter yesterday evening…at the same park.

I was there in the evening, doing taiqi, and Heidi was lying down, about 2 metres away from me, on the grass.

Soon, I heard the excited voice of a little girl, followed closely by her father. The little girl was wearing a pink dress and she kept saying, very happily, “Cat, cat…!!” and she came towards Heidi and me.

From her size and height, I’d say she could not be more than 3 years old.

The little girl in pink approached Heidi and said, gently and lovingly “Hello, Cat…” many times, in a very endearing voice. Her father encouraged her to say hello to Heidi and the father also said, “Hello, Cat…”.

As I continued doing my taiqi, the little girl squatted next to Heidi and kept saying, “Aww..hello, cat, hello cat…”

Heidi, well, being Heidi (the grand old dame), responded by tilting her head a little and continued lying down on the grass.

I’m glad Heidi trusted the little girl enough not to walk away, because she (the girl) was so happy to be able to come up so close to a cat. Her father stood behind her while she squatted next to Heidi.

After sometime, the little girl got up and came behind me. She must be wondering what kind of exercise I was doing. Then, I heard the father telling her that she must not disturb, but she could follow (whatever I was doing).

I finished my routine and the father asked me about Heidi. Soon, they went away.

I silently applauded the father for setting such a good example for his little daughter and I was pretty sure the kind and gentle little girl is what she is because of her upbringing.

As I continued with my routine, who would come next?

Yes, would you believe it, the two boys and their father. Yups, the stick-throwing boy.

And what did they do this time?

The father and both the boys came to where I was and all three (including the father) started kicking a ball around, as though I was not there at all.

Courtesy and the lack of it. Much of it is attributed to upbringing and also example, isn’t it? What parents do, the children follow.

I stopped my taiqi, scooped up Heidi and we went home.

We keep the good and discard the bad. The short encounter with the lovely little girl in pink and her father really made my day! Kudos to both of them!

In all fairness, as I’ve written before, much of it is attributed to upbringing and example, but I’ve also encountered responsible and courteous parents with total monster-children. Are children born with a clean slate? I shall not attempt to answer that, but I’ll certainly share the advice below:

Kudos to the little girl in pink and her father!
