SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT PUPPIES SMUGGLED INTO SINGAPORE
Last month, a 43-year-old Malaysian man attempted to smuggle six puppies into Singapore through the Woodlands Checkpoint. Six puppies were found hidden in a modified compartment underneath the rear seat of the vehicle he was travelling in.
The Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) would like to urge the public not to smuggle live animals into Singapore. Smuggling live animals compromises their welfare, and also the management of diseases.
The importation of any live animal without the appropriate permit from the AVA (Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority) is illegal and carries a maximum penalty of S$10,000 and/or a jail term of up to a year.
We urge members of public to report animal crime cases to the police, to the AVA, or to the ACRES ACIU at acrescrime@gmail.com .
