SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT � POOR HUSBANDRY AT BIRD SHOPS RAISES CONCERNS

Last week, the ACRES Animal Crime Investigation Unit (ACIU) investigated a report about a shop at Serangoon that was allegedly housing birds for sale in poor conditions.

During the investigation, our officers came across another shop housing birds in unacceptable conditions, including cages covered with faeces and unsanitary conditions.

Based on visual inspections, our officers found birds who appeared to be sick being housed together with healthy-looking birds.

Our officers gathered photographic evidence and forwarded the case to the relevant authority for action to be taken. We have since been informed that enforcement action has been taken against the shop. A follow up investigation also revealed that the shop has made rectifications to improve the housing conditions for the birds.
