TREED CAT COULDN’T TRIED TO JUMP ON MY HEAD!
“This impromptu rescue was not my most graceful,” Harmony Fund Founder Laura Simpson explains. “I got up the tree and the cat nearly jumped onto my head. I had to keep telling her “no” very firmly because she was putting us both in danger. When I raised the carrier above my head she actually leaped in with relief.”
“She was so happy to have help arrive,” Laura continued. “However I struggled to hold the carrier vertically in one hand while gripping the ladder in the other. If the carrier tipped at all, kitty would have been sent straight down to the ground at a height that would have broken several bones, if not worse. I needed the help of the fire department to get myself back down. Imagine the 911 call for a woman stuck in a tree with a cat. Thank goodness the firefighters held their laughter until after they left the scene.”
Too often people will ignore a treed cat and say, “He’ll come down when he’s ready.” But frequently the cats do need our help. They do have claws but they aren’t squirrels after all.
Though a fire department will sometimes refuse help for a cat in a tree, they will never refuse help to the rescuer who is also trapped and refuses to come down empty handed.
