Cow Finally Drinks Water (FLUTD)

I’m so totally freaked out that I spent the whole day watching Cow because I’m so worried about his FLUTD. Even though the vet told me in many cases where there is no blockage, the disease might resolve itself through a change in diet (to Royal Canin’s S/O), I’m still worried. I think it hurts me more looking at him straining to urinate and that only a few drops would come out. But Cow seems to be totally okay about it. He’s taking naps in between. Seems as cool as a cucumber, really.

I told the vet I’m worried about the pain of straining to urinate and I was going to cave and ask for the antibiotics. The vet told me not to anthropomorphise – our human experience and a cat’s experience may not be the same. That’s wise. I’m being silly, I know. I’ll bet I’m suffering more than Cow right now.

But here’s the thing, Cow has refused to eat the S/O kibble. He just doesn’t want it. That made me more worried because what if he doesn’t want to wet S/O as well? A friend told me that her cat simply hated the wet S/O. Then what am I going to feed Cow?

By evening, I just had to try the wet S/O as Cow refused to eat the S/O kibble.

Imagine my relief when Cow….ate it!!

Yes, that’s the wet S/O. It’s a bit pricey, though. But we’ll do anything for our pets, won’t we?

YES!! He’s eating!!

And of course, everyone else was clambering to eat it as well. I had to shoo everyone away so that Cow could eat in peace.

Everyone else wants to eat the S/O kibble as well, and I had to shoo them away too. I do wonder why Cow refused to eat the kibble. When I checked my blogpost in July 2011, Cow also refused to eat the kibble initially but Uncle Bobby made him eat it finally.

Uncle Bobby isn’t around anymore now. Sobs… Those were the days when Bobby would make everything right. He just knew what to do.

Look at him.

But it still makes me worry when he strains to urinate.

I palpated him again just now – no lump. It’s soft everywhere.

But I did not see him drinking water all day and I started to freak out again.

As though he could read my mind…

Yes! Cow is drinking water!

The vet said the S/O is supposed to make him drink more water. And he has to drink more water too.

We did look at his past records and found that in an earlier blood test taken last year, Cow already had a fair amount of RBC in his urine. This means, he does have urinary problems (it just doesn’t go away, but can be under control). It had been under control since July 2011, that’s five years, which isn’t that bad, really. I wonder why it flared up. The vet says it’s probably due to stress.

Indy scolded him yesterday and Cleo whacked him the day before. But these two vigilantes normally only do this when Cow wants to bully someone. And why does Cow HAVE to bully someone? And I averted a Cow-attack on Tiger that day. Does it mean we have to let him bully someone so that he wouldn’t be stressed? That wouldn’t be fair…(to that someone who gets bullied).

Cow, we need some counseling for you. You have to learn to manage your stress.

Ever since Bunny became partially (or fully) blind, Cow has been targeting Bunny for attack.

Yups, it’s all about the diplomatic relationship in the cat colony. Something that’s quite beyond us mere mortals.

Please get well soon, Cow.
