Thank You Very Much, Buddhist Maha Vihara, Brickfields!

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the Buddhist Maha Vihara at Brickfields and especially to everyone who made the effort to come over to meet us and support our fundraising activity this morning!
Agnes and I both started the day at 5.30am. We had to get up to feed our respective cats and then, head down to Brickfields to beat the jam, get parking and start early. I had already packed the stock into the car the night before. Really loaded the car!
At the temple this morning, we were met by Yuen Foon, who was already there and had set up a long table for us! That really helped.
A friend flanked by Agnes and Yuen Foon.
She bought 13 pieces of this handpainted paper weights, along with other gifts (including two neck ties!).
The handpainted paper weights are donated by Penny, Agnes’ friend. Thank you very much, Penny!
Sales was pretty good! The visitors were very generous and supportive.
Chief Reverend stopped by too and another very senior monk, Bhante Punnaji, also stopped by to enquire what we were selling and what it was for.
A visitor and animal lover, Ms Selvi. She will be telling her neighbours and friends about our neutering aid and we hope her neighbours will get the cats and dogs neutered. We are here to help with our aid.
Our “merchandising model” has always been to sell useful things such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and now we’ve added chia seeds and virgin coconut oil too. Tshirts were a hot-selling item many years ago too, but of course, nothing remains “hot” for too long! Now, we also sew patchwork blankets and my mother sews bags – for these, 100% of the donations go to the animals since all costs are absorbed by us or donated by supporters. For our full line of merchandise, please see www.myanimalcare.org/gifts/.
Oreo was going to visit us, but at the last minute, he wasn’t able to so he sent his parents instead! Oreo’s parents came to purchase Chia Seeds, shampoo and also a (secretly ordered) packet of silvervine powder!
Of course you cannot hide silvervine from any self-respecting cat and Oreo sent me these photos:
And thank you for my silvervine-ngiao! I smelt it the moment Mama placed the blue bag down on the floor and couldn’t contain my excitement. So Mama rubbed some on a pillow and well, the pictures attached can tell you the rest of the story-ngiao. I even went after Mama’s finger! I can still smell it on the blue bag so I’m having fun rubbing my face on both the blue bag and the pillow. Thank you thank you thank you and I hope you had a successful day today.
Oh yes, we certainly did!
We were supposed to pack up at 11am, but extended our stall until 12noon. Quite a number of visitors had heard about our stall so they collected orders from their friends and they came to collect today.
Yuen Foon displayed her two bags and blankets and some visitors were interested in them. We’ll probably sew some bags for the next stall in July.
There was a “Sharing and Caring” event (a pre-Wesak activity) at the temple today. There was a lion dance, cultural dances, blood donation and visits by old folks.
Many thanks to Agnes and Yuen Foon for helping out, and especially to Agnes for standing for 5 hours with me!
Our grateful thanks to everyone who came by to visit and support us today, especially those who came from far.
We will be at the Buddhist Maha Vihara again in July (after two months). We hope you’ll come by then to replenish your supply of our products!
Thank you very much, everyone!
