Vincents Tooth Extraction Today
Tweet |
Vincent did not come back for lunch or dinner last night. We went to look for him and called for him, but he did not appear. I was a little worried…what if he refused to come back and I could not take him to the vet’s today?
This morning, he also did not appear at the patio for breakfast. We later spotted him sitting on the pillar between our house and the neighbour’s. He refused to come down. Offers of food also did not work. Well, of course it wouldn’t, since his gums are probably too painful already and eating is not on his agenda.
Finally, we took a big risk and my husband climbed onto the slab to try and bring him down, knowing that he could easily just run away to the neighbour’s roof (and most likely, he would). We were extremely lucky. Vincent did not run away. He allowed my husband to carry him down and we quickly put him into the cage. No struggle, thank goodness.
We had already decided that my husband would play the “good guy” of doing only “nice things” to Vincent while I (no choice!) play the “bad guy” of caging him, feeding him medicines, etc. This way, at least he knows he can trust one person. Of course I hope he knows we are both doing our very best for his wellbeing.
It was 7am and I thought I could still offer him some food since an 8-hour fasting is required before any surgery. But Vincent refused to eat. His previous meal was yesterday’s breakfast….that’s 24 hours ago. This just goes to show how painful his gums must be. I’m glad the vet was willing to slot us in for the tooth extraction today. Initially we would have to wait until next week as appointments are full. I don’t think I can bear seeing Vincent being unable to eat for a few more days. It would break my heart.
The vet did console me that even if Vincent did not eat food for a week, he would still be okay, judging from his size and weight now. Still…you wouldn’t want to take that risk.
He’s been whining in the cage as he wants to be let out.
Heidi and Zurik are both keeping him company.
Vincent and all of us thank you very much for your kind wishes for him. I pray the surgery will be successful and we hope to see Vincent eating well after that.
Meanwhile, I have tons to do today. Managed to pay out all the backlog of neutering claims yesterday, replied all emails, taken part of the stock of Pet Fiesta tomorrow, and today, I have to take more stock, label and we’ll be setting up our booth later.
As for volunteers, we have enough for Saturday (9th April), but will be shorthanded on Friday (8th). If you are able to help on Friday, please do come over to Pet Fiesta at the Setia City Convention Centre.
