WERE YOU THINKING ABOUT HELPING ANIMALS AT 5 YEARS OLD?
Young children can be very capable of solving problems and showing empathy! The K1 kids at My First Skool (Yung An Road) are coming up with ideas to help Singapore’s native Sunda pangolins. After reading the storybook ‘Why Did the Pangolin Cross the Road’ and learning how pangolins can become victims of road traffic accidents, they were determined to find ways for these endangered scaly mammals to live more safely in Singapore.
Pangolins often cross roads to get from forest to forest, seeking food and shelter. Some even cross the roads with their young resting on their tails. Our Wildlife Rescue Hotline receives occasional calls about injured pangolins that have been run over by vehicles, and what we see can be really heart-breaking.
We hope that everyone in Singapore will do their best to prevent these unfortunate accidents from happening, e.g. by driving slowly and carefully near nature reserves. Do remember to alert the 24-hour ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 97837782 if you come across a pangolin that needs help.
Thank you to the K1 teachers of My First Skool, for cultivating positive values of caring for animals in the children! Kudos to the K1 children for their heartwarming efforts towards helping the pangolins!
