Bunnys pimples

It’s been a week since I brought Bunny to see the vet regarding those two “pimples” on his chin. My worry was it might be sporotrichosis.

The “pimples” had not got any better. In fact, it seemed to have got a bit worse. The vet last week said to start on Itranonazole (just in case it is sporotrichosis) but to bring back if there is no improvement.

Got worse.

So we went to the vet’s this morning.

The vet managed to press the two “pimples” and blood squirted out. Based on this, it is most likely abscesses (may be due to ingrown hair or due to the glands). Sporo lesions normally will not burst when pressed. There was also some whitish pus in one of the abscesses. Could be bacterial infection. These sort of abscesses are commonly found on the chin or elbow.

After pressing.

Giving oral antibiotics is a bit of an overkill at this point. So the option is to stop the Itraconazole and use topical antiseptic. A topical antibiotic like Fucidin can also be an option, if necessary, but for now, since it doesn’t look too serious, the vet recommended that we wash with Chlorohexidine (Hibiscrub), rinse with hypertonic salt water (high concentration of salt in water) and apply Povidone Iodine.

The Hibiscrub, the Povidone Iodine and hypertonic salt water.

According to the vet, now that the abscess have been punctured, they should start to heal.

It was very easy to administer the wash as Bunny did not struggle. He even liked (and licked!) the salt water rinse.

I hope this solves the problem!
