Is Vincent Starting Afresh?
Last night we had another power outage that lasted quite long, so everywhere was in darkness. I went out to look for Vincent, but could not find him anywhere.
This morning, Vincent came back to the patio for breakfast!
However, he was just too scared (yes, Ginger intimidated him, but we stopped him). He ate just a wee bit and stopped, but proceeded to walk away to the porch. I had to go after him and even while in the porch (away from everyone else), he appeared to be too terrified to eat.
Finally, he walked under the car to hide.
I had to crouch low and push the bowl of food to him, but he merely looked at the food.
It was only after a few minutes that he finally sniffed at the food and finally…he started eating!
While he was eating, Zurik and Ginger came out and I had to keep them at bay, so worried that their mere (terrifying) presence would intimidate and scare Vincent off.
Vincent eventually finished his bowl of food and walked out of the gate. I couldn’t convince him to stay.
But he just went over next door to the neighbour’s porch and sat there grooming himself. I called him, but he just looked and continued grooming himself.
I guess he just wants his own space. Our porch and patio is “too crowded”?
Anything I can do to help?
No, Indy, but thanks. It is just like way back in the old house where you, Pole and Tiger had to migrate to the neighbours’ porch to escape the intimidation of Cow and Bunny, remember? I think the same thing is happening now, to Vincent. He has had enough of trying to fend off Zurik and Ginger makes him feel unwelcome. So, Vincent has decided to find his own space where no one will disturb him.
Well, the consolation is that Vincent is just next door and isn’t so far away.
Ironically, it also reminds me of how Vincent used to intimidate Willy when they both first came. Vincent disallowed Willy from coming into our house compound and Willy used to be so scared (I had to feed him across the road).
Now, Vincent is behaving exactly like how Willy used to be. Vincent’s behaviour is akin to a new cat trying to come in to get some food. It’s so strange, isn’t it? How he used to sleep on our sofas and go upstairs and now, he is like a new cat…
I guess there is just so much that we can do to help. And there are more things in heaven and earth that is dreamt of in our philosophy.
We don’t know it all.
Be well and happy, Vincent ol’ boy! Your loyal and dedicated soldier-deeds will never be forgotten. I do miss the evenings where Vincent would sit on top of our pillar and guard our house.
