Kampung Eggs From Kampung Harvest

I’ve written quite often about eggs and kampung eggs. I’ve also written a lot about the cruelty in poultry farms and shall not repeat the horrendous things that happen to hens and male chicks in these farms.
But many humans grow up with egg in their daily diet, so to forgo eggs can be difficult for some. That is why many vegetarians are actually ovo-vegetarians (they eat eggs, unfertilised ones, that is).
We have the option of buying kampung eggs, but exactly how “kampung” are the kampung eggs that we buy? We are often told that the hens run freely, but what about other aspects of their lives?
I always check the source of the eggs, and my concerns would be:
1 Are the eggs fertilised?
2 Do the hens get to live on even after they stop producing eggs?
3 Are the hens really free range and happy?
Well, the eggs I purchase at Medifoods satisfy the above criteria. They are pricey, but you can sleep easy knowing that these are really cruelty-free eggs, as far as possible. I know the proprietor of the farm, so I’m sure about this as I’ve asked him myself.
This is the chawanmushi dish I made last week. It really makes a difference when using kampung eggs as much less water is required.
So eat healthily and mostly plants, but if one has to eat eggs, let’s make sure they are cruelty-free eggs, laid by happy and free range hens.
