NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 05 FEBRUARY 2016

1. (Left top) Stripes is a Puff-faced water snake who was found in a camp adjacent to the forested area. Stripes was shown the way home gently by our rescue team. These snakes are beautiful species found in our waters, feeding on fish and frogs.

2. (Left middle) Olivia is an Olive-backed sunbird fledgling who was unlucky and landed on adhesive tape debris at a HDB car park. However, her luck came in the form of a kind lady who rescued Olivia and called us to assist. We carefully removed the tape off the small bird, and the caller helped to keep Olivia warm, safe and hydrated for the night, so we can re-unite the next day. This is greatly helpful in avoiding stress from transportation. Our day shift rescue officers returned again in the morning and guess what – Olivia’s parents were still hanging around, and the reunion was successful!

3. (Left bottom) The police alerted us to sighting of a python by the park connector. Our team realised that the park connector was right next to a canal, which our native reticulated pythons and other snakes use to navigate around. Thanks to the caller (jogger) who waited for us, learnt more about our native snakes – and we together guided the snake from the railing to the canal!

4. (Right) Botch is an insectivorous bat who flew into a residence, and found a dark corner of a really high (we mean it) curtain of the living room. There were no windows that could be opened wide enough for him to fly out. The concerned family who called us had tried turning off lights and opening other windows, but Botch was still lost. After trying several other methods, we finally managed to corner him using a net (not the best method, but as a last resort) and released him immediately outside the flat.

Do remember to call the ACRES 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Hotline at 9783 7782 if you spot any wild animal in Singapore who may need some help.

Have a pleasant weekend!
