Nica is the female dog rescued by Teresa Chian from the highway, after having been run over twice by vehicles. She had a ruptured bladder and underwent surgery, which was successful.

Teresa had to go overseas, so Nica was fostered by friends. Upon Teresa's return, she found out that Nica had cleverly escaped, as many stray animals are prone to do once they feel well again.
Here's the story:
Nica's grand escape Nica was being fostered by Christopher & his wife, Jocelyn in their house in Ampang on Sept 1. On Sept 13, they informed me that Nica jumped over a retaining wall and a drain that separates their house from the jungle and ran straight for it. She seemed to have recovered and regained much strength and plot her escape when she thought nobody was watching. Jocelyn was in fact in the kitchen and saw the escape scene. Chris and Jocelyn ran after her and searched the jungle for an hour. They have also driven around the area where there are packs of stray dogs. There are car workshops nearby and the workers there sometimes feed these strays. I have plans to rehome Nica but if Chris & Jocelyn cannot find her, then there is nothing more I can do. We are sadden by the sudden twist of fate but also rejoice at the fact that Nica is well and determine enough to run away from the humans who offered to shelter her.
We hope Nica will be safe, happy and not be spotted by any local council worker!
This brings to mind, Joanie, a cat dumped on me by her feeder from Old Klang Road. We were alerted about Joanie, who then, was practically ice-cold and dying from a most terrible obstructed labour where three fetuses had decomposed to a gaseous state inside her. The first fetus was stuck at her vulva, and according to the vets, she had probably been in that condition for two weeks prior to the time her feeder called us. Joanie underwent surgery, which almost had a nil chance of survival, but survive she did. I went down to the hospital to nurse her every day. From stone-cold, she regain her health and was fit for discharge. I had to bring her home because her feeder claimed she could not look after her. Yes, it was a case of dumping.
Joanie stayed in my house for 20 days and got well as the days went by. As a former community cat who practically lived as a stray, she felt very threatened by the presence of my (then) eight adult cats. At that time, I did not fully comprehend the fear and insecurity my adult cats caused Joanie. On the 20th day, Joanie ran away from my house, in a split second when I had just turned my back.
I searched everywhere and sighted her on that day and subsequent days (the feeder came to help look as well). But Joanie decided she was well enough to be live freely as a stray again and did not want to be caught.

I have never seen her ever since. I hope she is well too.
Ever since then, I learnt I cannot foster any adult cat. My alphas are so "alpha", it would upset the entire equilibrium in the household, and either the fostered cat would be so fearful or my adult cats might pack their bags and run away from home. That would be a nightmare for me.
Cat politics....they exists.
I can handle the fostering of kittens for a short duration, but even then, my alphas would start chasing any kitten when they feel the threat, perhaps at 5-6 months of age. Hence, it's fostering and rehoming. Not adopting. Even if I wanted it, my cats would object. And then, there's family to think about too. My son and husband say, "No more, please...." Husband says fostering is "ok", but please get them adopted. Son says, "Why is there always a new animal in the house whenever I come back? Is this going to be a cat house?"
So, sometimes, it is easy for people to chide me, "Why can't you foster? Why can't you adopt?" I wish I could. But I have to think of the members of my family too (humans AND feline). Bobby is fine....with anything! Anything, but another dog!! He'll create hell if I brought another dog into the house as he had for 13 years, with Mac! The two fought.....for 13 years. Yup, Bobby is very alpha, too. He'll accept any cat or kitten, but don't you bring another dog anywhere near the house! All hell would break lose.
Dog politics, they also exists.
So, what more human politics, ya?
Ironical, isn't it, that we cannot seem to get along with our own kind. Cat fight cat, dog fight dog, human fight human. But dog loves cat, cat loves dog, human loves dog, human loves cat. Well, except for some, especially the humans who live at the back of my house. They go berserk when they hear a cat mew or a dog bark.
And oh, by the way, Happy Malaysia Day!!
